When we first started Extracted Love, giving back was something that was very important to us. Prior to launching our business, we wanted to partner with a local non-profit that we could give a percent of our sales to monthly. We began throwing out ideas of causes we are passionate about in order to find the right one. My husband is a retired veteran of the US Army and it was very important to me to work with or be able to give back to our veterans. Tim agreed he was equally as passionate about supporting our vets. Since our company is animal focused, what better non-profit than one that uses dogs to assist veterans!
We stumbled across Freedom Service Dogs based out of Denver. We instantly fell in love. Not only do they train rescue dogs to be service dogs for veterans, but their clients also include children, active duty military, and other adults with disabilities including traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, post-traumatic stress disorder, and autism. We immediately called to set up an appointment to discuss a partnership and take a tour of the facilities.
Upon arriving at Freedom Service Dogs we were welcomed with open arms. All of the staff and volunteers went out of their way to show us around and introduce us to the dogs. Cargo, featured in the picture above, is the doggy face of FSD. We went to one of their training rooms so he could show us some of the amazing things service dogs are trained to be able to do. Cargo turned the lights on and off for us, got us a bottle of water out of the refrigerator, picked up a cell phone and credit card off the floor and even took the clothes out of the dryer for us! It’s truly incredible what Cargo and the other service dogs are trained to be able to do for their owners.
Specialized training for these service dogs is not cheap. It actually costs about $30,000 and takes between 7-10 months to rescue and train each service dog! Upon hearing that, we knew right then this is where we wanted our money to go. $1 of every box of Extracted Love treats purchased is donated to FSD. If you are interested in helping out this amazing non-profit, please go to freedomservicedogs.org to make a donation today.
We look forward to our continued partnership with Freedom Service Dogs and helping them paint their new facility later this month. Keep your eye out for pictures from our upcoming painting day. I wonder if Cargo knows how to paint…..
